    Paul Auster, The Brooklyn Follies, Chapter 1

    RÉSUMÉ

    This extract is the 1st chapter of Paul Auster's famous novel untitled The Brooklyn Follies. In this passage, the narrator explains us what lead him to be where he is when the story begins. He talks about his past and especially his family: his ex-wife and daughter. In those pages, the narrator makes four portraits: a short portrait of his daughter and of his wife, a moral self-portrait and he also depicts his own portrait through his daughter's eyes. Then, all along the text, we can discover things about his state of mind. The portraits and his state of mind are the main elements I'm going to focus on, to study this extract.
