    This brief essay discusses how the British people feel about the NHS, their national medical care and health system. A majority agree that changes are needed and that the level of care and length of waiting lists for even minor procedures and consultations are causes for concern.

    Given the long waiting lists, 87% of patients declare that they would be happy to be seen by a nurse rather than a doctor, if their conditions were not serious and 84% of them would be happy to see a pharmacist instead of their GP to repeat an existing prescription, if necessary.
