    Pankaj Guemawat is a Business Economics graduate from Harvard University, professor of Global Strategy at IESE Business School in Barcelona at Harvard Business School and a bestselling case writer. He has written over fifty articles related to globalization. One of them, “Regional Strategy for Global Leadership” was awarded the best article published in Harvard Business Press by McKinsey in 2005. His books include Game Business Play, Strategy and the Business Landscape and World 3.0. In 1991, he became the youngest professor in Harvard's history and 17 years later, the youngest management “guru” mentioned in the guide to greatest management thinkers of all time released by The Economist.

    The Porter Five Forces analysis was built as a riposte to the SWOT analysis. The CAGE framework can be perceived as constructed in reaction to the current tools available. It completes the threat of new competition Porter's component in a more rigorous way. Indeed, the CAGE framework stands for four correlated dimensions of distance: Cultural, Administrative, Geographic and Economic distance. It “suggests a good sense of metrics capturing the degree of difference versus similarity between countries”. Beyond the manifest conception of each of these distances at a country level, according to the author, this analysis should be executed as well at an industry level through the analysis to the product's sensitivity to each component of CAGE.
