Résumé
Fitzegerald decided to introduce The Great Gatsby with a poem by Thomas Parke d'Invillers the beginning of which is; "Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her [...]". The two principal themes of the story are conveyed through this sentence; money "the gold hat" and Love, "will move her". Both are intermingled to each other. Moreover Money is also connected with social status, not only with love.
Bearing this in mind, we will analyse five relationships: Tom and Daisy, Gatsby and daisy, and finally Tom and Myrtle, Myrtle and her husband, and Jordan and the narrator, Nick.
