Essay on the economy going in England. History over 50 years after the end of the Second World War, the country had to face persistent economic problems, such as the pressure on the currency, a deficit of the general balance of the payments, the inflation and the difficulties of its industrial system. During the world economic crisis of the years 1970, these problems became critical: unemployment struck more than one million people, the productivity fell, the wages dropped and the currency reached its level low.

After two decades of liberalization with forced marches, the government of Tony Blair installed some mechanisms of social regulation. In March 1998, the House of Commons gave its agreement for the introduction of a minimum wage, that came into effect in April 1999. Unemployment is officially at very low rate, but the unemployed not-taken counts some in the statistics (inapt for work) are more than two million: besides the Prime Minister hopes to take measures to give them to work. Poverty remains alarming: a third of the children lives under the poverty line.
