Toni Morrison is an american author who was born on February, 18th of 1931 in Lorain, Ohio, United States. In her novels, she is used to describing Black misery, beauty, fight, love, creativity and strength.
Sula, published in 1973, is a novel whose story takes place at the height of the deep America, in a small town community in the uplands of Ohio, in the borough of Medallion, from 1919 to 1965.
The extract we're going to study is at the beginning of the book, after a description of the Bottom of Medallion and its villagers. It is extracted from the short prologue on which the novel opens. This prologue focuses on the changes which are taking place in the town of Medallion and its neighbourhood.
