Résumé
Nowadays, thanks to the technological advancement, a lot of thing that seemed to be impossible one or two decades ago are now possible and even very useful. One of these things is the creation of virtual teams. This creation is in fact the answer to an ever more globalized world where a company has subsidiaries all around the world, and where we move from industrial to informational products and services. Virtual teams were created because the way to work had to be quickly adapted to these trends asking for more flexibility and providing more diversity, more productivity, less costs and more opportunities. Today, 20% of workers are working virtually. But are these virtual teams just an extension of traditional ones? First, we have a look on the differences between these two types of teams and their advantages and disadvantages. Afterwards we focus on trust building and tools which might enable managers to overcome specific problems in virtual teams. Before we start, lets answer the following question:
What is a virtual team?
A virtual team is a short or long-term, possibly cross functional team whose members are geographically and / or temporally dispersed and are connected through electronically information and telecommunication technology.
