American Art of the XXth century: Comparison of two pictures: Man Ray's Le Violon d'Ingres & Alfred Stieglitz's Dorothy True.

During the first decades of the twentieth century, Stieglitz was the undisputed leader of the idea that a photograph could be art. In his famous gallery 291 in New York, he actively promoted this art, and supported a lot of pictorial and intellectual movements of the times. Among them, Stieglitz heavily supported the Dada movement; and one of the famous American Dadaists was Man Ray.
Although Man Ray was an artist who used almost every for his art, he was mostly famous for his pictures. Stieglitz, while supporting other artists, also was a famous photographer. The two men knew each other, and most certainly inspired each other. Here I have decided to compare a famous picture of Man Ray with a less well-known picture of Stieglitz, because of the very interesting way they have of portraying women in similar yet different ways (...)
