The train was especially fascinated Edward Hopper in the thirties.
In 1925, his artistic maturity was revealed through this painting, the first work of a series of urban and rural scenes.
Hopper is one of the painters who, in his lifetime, knew the pleasure of seeing their paintings purchased by museums. The first of them, "House by the Railroad" was given in 1930 by millionaire Stephen Clark at the Museum of Modern Art.
