Résumé
Theodore Roethke succeeds in "My Papa's Waltz" to depict a brutal relationship between a drunken father and his child. The author's choice to express this difficult relationship through "waltzing" is conveyed by both the words and the structure of the poem. Interestingly, the clash between topics of love, violence, drunkenness and control that emanate from the poem creates a deep feeling of uneasiness.
