This essay analyses the process of border crossings (geographically, emotionnally etc.) in relation to the reflection upon the Self, the notion of identity and how one can define it.

This essay focuses on three particular books:

1. The Way Back (1990) Enrico Palandri.
2. The Reader (1995) Bernhard Schlink.
3. February Shadows Elisabeth Reichart.

With the spread of Capitalism and Globalization around the globe, the notion of identity has strongly re-emerged in our contemporaries' societies. Indeed, with the world becoming a more uniformed place everyday, the issue of Identity is in crisis and the debate around it is very controversial. Who am I? Who are we? Does the "I" really exist? Where do I belong? What is my identity? Such are the questions arising ever more often and the answers are not often given. As can be seen in Literature or other forms of arts, the quest of identity has become a primordial theme of analysis showing the importance of one reflecting upon oneself; the need to discover who one is is important (...)
