Résumé
Google inc did in a short amount of time something which nobody was able to forecast during the dot-com bubble era: maintain a huge and exponential growth. In the past few years, this little startup from Mountainview, CA, became the standard in Internet data collection and search domains. Strong from its success, Google is now extending activities on the Web, either in practical projects or fundamental research to diversify and conquer new markets. However, such a success in world wide usage brought loads of actions against this new coming giant. Google set up a new widely used system and democratized the advertising-supported business model. But many virtual entities, like in real world and as far as internet allow it, want to use and abuse of the system. As we will review in more details later, Google's whole profitability strategy is supported by the so called AdSense/AdWord advert system. Obviously, all attacks against this system are the center of Google's preoccupations; so to protect their market in keeping customers, they need to guarantee the reliability of their ad system.
First, we will introduce the subject by reviewing quickly in what the Google business model is highly dependant on advertising. It is commonly argued that this situation is far to be risk free, so we will try to explain why. In this part of the analysis, we will also bring a short description on how it really works.
Then, we will focus on the fraud system itself, since we have to analyze what are the reasons for people overriding the rules. We will also talk about the range of fraud technics against AdSense and PageRank systems, and what are those which are efficient. We will discover that many security holes and weaknesses are originated from the engine itself, that cheaters do not need many technical skills to exploit bugs and spoil robots.
Finally, the last part of the essay will focuses on solutions and parries that Google is setting up or should consider to stop the scourge. There is a range were internal resources can provide solutions to fraud, but as the means of hackers are increasing, we will see that changing the system in a more humanized style can defeat the fakers in cracking the machine.
