Résumé

This paper focuses on the success of the most profitable movie the USA have ever known; the goal is to explain this success by analizing not only the movie, but also the OST, the promotion etc.

James Cameron's 1997 blockbuster Titanic broke box-office records; indeed, it replaced Star Wars as the most successful film that has ever been produced. It seems that no-one could have predicted that this Hollywood production would become the first movie in history to break $1 billion (exactly $1.8 billion) in worldwide sales, the highest grossing domestic release, held a record of 14 weeks at number one, and tied Ben Hur (1959) for the most number of Academy awards (11, including a best director Oscar) ever won by a single film. Therefore it is interesting to focus on the reasons of such a success, to understand how and why Titanic became the blockbuster we know ...
