Puppetry is the art of making puppets and presenting puppet shows. This form of performance consists of manipulating puppets in real time that are defined as inanimate objects in order to give them some form of life. Puppets have existed for thousands of years and they are known to children and adults all over the world. Puppet shows appeared throughout history, in almost all civilisations. The origins of puppets can be traced back to religious ceremonies and black magic. Through time, the magical beliefs behind the puppet have been forgotten and replaced with the more traditional performances we see today. Puppets are made of a wide range of materials, depending on the effect required and the amount of usage intended, and can be extremely complex or very simple in their construction.
