Résumé
The 1st chapter is the beginning of Victor's narration which follows the letters of Walton, the man who rescued him in the North Seas. He tells W his story, focusing here on his childhood. He puts stress on love and friendship he was surrounded by. For the study of this extract, I'm going to focus on those 2 main themes and then the one of poverty and dead. The aim is to see by whom the themes are introduced and why they are introduced right from the beginning. I will finish by pointing out the parallels between the characters' situation and Mary Shelley's life.
