Résumé

The civil solidarity pact, open to all unmarried couples, could be the most important social event of this end of century.

This new union give rise to ethical problems and violent debates about homosexuality, phratries, adoption, and adoption for homosexual couples.

Indeed, the French government is really divided about the last PACS bill, which has been done in November 1998. The socialist party, led by Lionel Jospin, want PACS to be an essential point of its programme, but the conservative opposition shows its fear faced with this new evolution of society.

Anyway, disagreements are not only political but also socio-cultural: the debate about PACS shows an astonishing french contradiction. On the one hand, French seem to be very modern and on the other hand, they are attached to traditions and old values.

So, the question is: is our society ready to admit PACS?

First, we will do a presentation of the civil solidarity pact. So, we will study how does it work and we will look for its causes and its objectives.

Then, we will discuss the main debates about PACS.
