Résumé
Essay on “The concept of “organisation as a machine” despite being drawn from the work of the classical theorists (Weber, Taylor) is not an outmoded form of management practice but is still very prevalent in many aspects of modern life”.
Extract:
“Organize rationally, efficiently, and clearly” or “Plan, organise, and control, control, control” are concepts linked to the classical management theorists. These principles (Morgan, 1997) take integrally part from the concept of the “organisation as a machine” introduced by Max Weber and Frederick Winslow Taylor. In 1890s, new organizational studies were born thanks to Taylor. These theories were founded on the principles of measurement and precision in order to achieve efficiency. According to Rosenfeld and Wilson (1999) “organization was viewed as a machine which could be made more efficient if universal principles could be applied”. Taylor sought to develop a management theory in which Management appeared as a “science” with a process of planning, command, co-ordination and above all control. His aim is to develop a “one best way” of organizing.
