Résumé
To properly deal with a counterpart it is very important to understand his culture correctly, which is often very difficult. But what is important to understand in a culture? Historical and geographical parameters are the most important to understand why a culture is, for example, more collectivistic or more individualistic. Understanding his culture is a major step towards understanding your counterpart, and avoiding mistakes during a meeting.
For this study we chose two special countries, Lebanon and South Africa. These two countries have a multicultural history that tends to be more equitable in one case and maybe less equitable in the other. The country, which tends to be less equitable, could be Lebanon. The news of the last few months show us problems in this region of the world.
The other country is South Africa. "Now that Apartheid is gone, the new South Africa is emerging as one of the most multicultural nations on earth. The country is composed of British, Afrikaans, Malay, Indian, Zulu, Xhosa, and other black tribes".
To better understand better how a Lebanese person and a South African person could understand each other in a meeting, we have decided to first study each country to know their specific historical and the geographical parameters. Then we have studied appropriate behaviors when traveling to South Africa or Lebanon. Finally we have compared both cultures to consider what could happen when a South African person meets a Lebanese person in a meeting.
